WiscWeb site owners will be required to transition their sites from UW Theme Classic to UW Theme 2.0 by December 2026. To help us in tracking progress in this effort, we are looking to understand if certain unlaunched WiscWeb project sites are still in use.
Do you manage a UW Theme Classic site that is still publishing to a sitename.wiscweb.wisc.edu URL? If so, we need your help.
What do we need from you?
Please take a moment to:
- Review the unlaunched site spreadsheet (NetID required for logging in)
- Search for your site(s) in the list
- If you find one of your sites in the list, please:
- Update the dropdown field in column C to note whether it is still needed
- Add your first and last name to column D
- Add any relevant notes about the status of the site that you wish to include in column E
When do we need it?
Please review and update the spreadsheet by Friday, February 27, 2026.
If we don’t receive an update on a site by that date, we will assume it is abandoned and will archive the project site.
What is an “unlaunched site” in UW Theme Classic?
An unlaunched site is a site that:
- Is still publishing to a *.wiscweb.wisc.edu domain, which we consider to be a project domain
- Never officially launched to a production domain
If neither apply to your site(s), your site will not appear in the spreadsheet and you can safely ignore this message.
What does it mean to have an archived site?
- An archived site is a visible indication to the WiscWeb team that the site is no longer needed and will not need to be migrated.
- Archived sites cannot be accessed by the public and will display an error that reads: “This site has been archived or suspended.”
- Archived sites can easily be un-archived (until January 2027), upon request.
Why are we asking?
WiscWeb has roughly 2,000 sites that need to migrate to UW Theme 2.0 in the next year. We’d like to focus our efforts and energy on sites that are still actively in use. By archiving these projects, we can focus our attention on the sites that actually need help.
