UW Theme Classic sites can now start migrating to UW Theme 2.0

WiscWeb and the Office of Strategic Communication’s Digital Strategy Team are excited to announce that the migration path for existing WiscWeb sites is now available!

Please review all of the information below to ensure the smoothest experience:

Important reminders

  • We cannot re-migrate the site. We encourage you to hold off on requesting a migrated site until you are ready to dedicate time to the migration.
    • We also suggest submitting migration requests one at a time rather than requesting several all at once.
  • There will be some manual effort involved.
  • Once we migrate your site, you will need to keep your existing site and that new project site in sync. Any edits to your existing site will need to be manually added to the new UW Theme 2.0 project site.
  • Some features have not yet been built in UW Theme 2.0 and therefore will not migrate. If you rely on any of the unfinished features, please hold off on requesting a new migrating site. This includes UW Events.
  • All sites will need to “re-launch” in UW Theme 2.0. You’ll need to schedule a new launch request after you’re done building. You may keep the same wisc.edu domain.
  • We expect a high volume of requests initially. Larger sites can take 1-2 hours to export and import. We will process requests as quickly as possible, but it might take a few days before we can hand over the migrated site.

Next steps (when ready)

Resources

  • Use the feedback form to report bugs you find while using UW Theme 2.0 to help improve the theme after launch. As the form notes, this is not a support request form. If you need help with your site, please continue using the WiscWeb Customer Support Form.
  • If you are just curious about the editing experience in UW Theme 2.0 but are not yet ready to migrate, please use the WP Playground.
  • In-person office hours have been scheduled specifically for users who need help with migrating to UW Theme 2.0.

Special thanks to StratComm and WiscWeb developers for all of the work on the theme and migration tooling!
