On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, the WordPress UW Theme was updated to version 2.2.0 in the WiscWeb service. A full list of changes in this version of the UW Theme can be reviewed in the changelog.
Here are some noteworthy highlights:
New testimonial pattern with image on the left
The theme has a new pattern for displaying a testimonial with an image off to the left.
To utilize this feature:
- Open your Patterns menu
- Search for Testimonials
- Select the pattern titled “Quote with circle image on left and link”
Removed Classic and HTML blocks form inserter
If you stumbled across the Classic and/or HTML blocks in the block inserter, please note that these are no longer shown there. We felt their removal helps prevent users from changing default styles.
As much as possible, we encourage use of the default styles/branding that comes standard in UW Theme 2.0. This helps align your site more closely with the UW–Madison brand and ensures your content stays accessible.
Updated theme link in the footer
We’ve updated the UW Theme link in the footer of all UW Theme sites so that users can easily differentiate between UW Theme Classic and UW Theme 2.0. If you have a UW Theme 2.0 site, you should see “UW Theme 2.0” listed in the bottom of the footer, along with a link to the UW Theme 2.0 informational site.
If you notice any breaking issues on your UW Theme 2.0 site after this update, please submit a request via our Customer Support Form (Note: please choose the “Emergency Issue” option when submitting). Please provide as much detail as possible when documenting the issue you are experiencing.
