On behalf of the WiscWeb team and the Office of Strategic Communication’s Digital Strategy Team, we’re thrilled to announce that UW Theme 2.0 is now available in WiscWeb for building new (from scratch) websites!
Note: Site migrations are not yet ready but will be available in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
Getting started
If building a “from scratch” website, you can request a new UW Theme 2.0 site starting today!
- Review the UW Theme 2.0 documentation website
- Review the theme training playlist
- Submit a new site request form
Please do not request a new site yet unless you are building from scratch and want a completely blank UW Theme 2.0 project. This is not intended to be a playground for testing the new theme.
Considerations/reminders
- Migrating sites – A path for migrating your existing WiscWeb site will be made available in the coming weeks. Consider perusing the UW Theme 2.0 Migration documentation now for what to expect.
- Site launch – All sites will need to “re-launch” in UW Theme 2.0. You’ll need to schedule a new launch request after you’re done building. You may keep the same wisc.edu domain.
- Testing the theme – Try out the new theme in a WP Playground environment — no login or setup required. Content is temporary and will disappear when you refresh the page.
- Feature requests – For the first couple of months after launch, we’ll focus on resolving any bugs or issues that arise with both the theme and related plugins. For now, please wait on submitting new feature requests.
- Bug fixes – Use the feedback form to report bugs you find while using UW Theme 2.0 to help improve the theme after launch. As the form notes, this is not a support request form. If you need help with your site, please continue using the WiscWeb Customer Support Form.
- Service changes with new infrastructure – UW Theme 2.0 sites will be living in new WiscWeb infrastructure. With this shift comes a few relevant changes to the service offering.
