Build from scratch in UW Theme 2.0

What does it mean to build from scratch in UW Theme 2.0? It means you’re starting with a completely blank website project. This option assumes you will not need any content migrated or transitioned from another location or website. Any content you need will have to be manually built in the new theme.

Here’s a few use cases for building from scratch:

  • You wish to fully redesign your website
  • You are building a website for the first time
  • You have an existing site but you prefer to rebuild it manually rather than waiting for migration tooling

Your website journey

If you are interested in a build from scratch website, here are the recommended steps you should take:

  1. Review training materials for UW Theme 2.0
  2. Review the UW Theme 2.0 informational website
  3. Request your new site
  4. Build out your site
  5. Request a site launch, when your content is ready to be live

The Gutenberg editor in WiscWeb displays block options in a left-side panel with an editing area to the right.

Considerations

    • If you have existing websites in WiscWeb that use the UW Theme Classic, you won’t be able to access that site list from your new build from scratch website. The reason for this is because the two options exist in different WordPress environments.
    • Some features have not yet been rebuilt for UW Theme 2.0. Check the Element Conversion list for a list of what has and has not been rebuilt.
    • Use the feedback form to report bugs you find while using UW Theme 2.0 to help improve the theme after launch.
      • As the form notes, this is not a support request form. If you need help with your site, please continue using the WiscWeb Customer Support Form.
