UW Events features and an improved ‘noindex’ option for pages

The WiscWeb team has been busy working on a couple of new features for our users:

UW Events

Featured content block display

We’ve added a new display option for the UW Events plugin that allows you to show events in a card/featured content block style.

Instructions for how to use this feature, as well as examples of the different options, can be found in the KnowledgeBase doc: WiscWeb – Using the UW Events plugin

Event headings

We fixed some inconsistencies in how headings were displayed for UW Events post listings. Previously, the headings would appear as an h3 regardless of whether an overarching h2 was present.

We’ve updated this so that the heading appears as an h3 only if the content is displayed within a content layout that includes its own h2 heading.

Timezones

The UW Events plugin now has an option for setting timezone for your events. This is displayed to the right of the event date/time. It is automatically populated based on the timezone you have set in your general site settings (Settings > General > Timezone).

‘Noindex’ updates

If you have pages you wish to not be crawled by Google, please be aware that we are recommending a new approach for setting this.

A user pointed out that pages designated as ‘nodinex’ in the metadata settings were still appearing in Google search results. The reason was because WordPress was still placing these pages in the sitemap, which allowed them to be crawled.

To prevent this, we added a new feature that more precisely and securely prevents the page from being crawled by Google bots.

Instructions for this feature can be found in the KnowledgeBase doc: WiscWeb – Using the UW No Index / Remove Pages from Search Crawlers plugin
