WordPress Core 7.0 changes that you may notice

On Monday, June 22, the WiscWeb service will be updating UW Theme Classic and UW Theme 2.0 sites to WordPress Core 7.0.

There are a few changes that users may notice after this change:

Bright blue color scheme in dashboard for both UW Theme Classic and UW Theme 2.0

WordPress has changed their default blue in the dashboard.

Temporary Media Library overlay for images in gallery view for UW Theme Classic

On the day of release, users will temporarily see the file title overlay images in the gallery view for the Media Library. This will be removed on Wednesday, June 24 when the service pushes out updates to UW Theme Classic.

Image block changes in UW Theme 2.0

With WordPress 7.0, the Image block in the theme will now show a focal picker option. However, this only shows up if you’ve already chosen an aspect ratio.

Gallery block lightbox changes in UW Theme 2.0

When “Enlarge on click” is enabled for a Gallery block, visitors will be able to cycle through all images in the gallery in a larger lightbox view.

Highlighted custom HTML boxes for sites migrating to UW Theme 2.0

For this change, you will only see this option if you are:

  1. Migrating from UW Theme Classic to UW Theme 2.0 in WiscWeb
  2. Have some custom/inline HTML in your UW Theme Classic site

After the WordPress 7.0 release, custom HTML blocks will be highlighted (in teal) in the editor to make it clearer to the user that this content exists. Users should copy the text in that space and paste it back into the editor. This process should convert the content to regular blocks.

Two groupings of messages that are higlighted in teal. In lighter teal above, a message shows Lorem Ipsem text. In darker teal below, there is instructional text telling users to copy and paste the content into the editor of WordPress.
