On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the WordPress UW Theme was updated to version 2.1.0 in the WiscWeb service. A full list of changes in this version of the UW Theme can be reviewed in the changelog.
Here are some noteworthy highlights:
New pattern for UW Featured Post block
The theme has a new pattern for displaying a featured post that does not include an image. As a reminder, this the UW Featured Post block is the new alternative to Related Posts.
To utilize this feature:
- Add a UW Featured Post block to your page
- Click the Choose button to select a pattern
- In the patterns list, choose the option for “Featured Post with no image“
Page titles will now include “UW–Madison” at the end
This feature was always in place in UW Theme Classic and will now show for UW Theme 2.0 pages. This is most apparent in the page title display from the browser tab.
Hero carousels can now be set to have a randomized slide order
Randomized slide order for hero carousels was a feature in UW Theme Classic that is now available for UW Theme 2.0!
To utilize this feature:
- Open the List View for your page
- Click on the UW Hero Carousel block
- In your right sidebar, select the Block tab
- Under Settings, toggle on the option to “Randomize slide order”
