When will this change go into effect?
Friday, Nov. 1, 2024.
Why is WiscWeb making this change?
Media files contribute to overall storage space for our multisite environment. Video files are quite large, which means that they can take up a lot of storage space and require more server bandwidth. Video hosting services like YouTube and UW-Madison’s Kaltura service are designed to support these file types.
What happens to my existing video/movie files?
Pre-existing video and movie files will still remain in your Media Library and will continue to work as expected. However, you will no longer be able to upload new files of these types.
How can I include video in the future?
The recommended approach for hosting videos is to upload them to a hosting service like YouTube, Kaltura, or Vimeo. From there, they can be embedded in your WiscWeb site.
