On Thursday, September 29, 2022, the WordPress UW Theme was updated to version 1.20.0 in the WiscWeb service. A full list of changes in this version of the UW Theme can be reviewed in the changelog.
A few of the other noteworthy changes are outlined below:
Equal Height Blocks Feature for Content Layouts
We have added a feature that will allow you to make your content layout cards equal heights. This will apply specifically to:
- Text Blocks with a drop shadow or UW Card Style
- Featured Content Blocks with a drop shadow or UW Card Style
- Group of Links (only when displayed as blocks, not buttons)
This feature is only available in 2 and 3 column layouts and is located in the settings for the content layout.

Diacritical Marks for Faculty/Staff Search
A UW Theme user recently pointed out that searching for Faculty/Staff that have diacritical marks (accents, umlauts, etc.) in their names would return no results in the faculty/staff search unless it was typed with the marks.
This update will allow users to find a person even if they don’t have the correct diacritical marks added when typing their name.
Today.wisc.edu Links Can Go Directly to Provided URLs
In some cases, users may want their today.wisc.edu links to go directly to a provided URL.
To use this new option, simply toggle the checkbox within the today.wisc.edu page element:
Styling Fixes for Drop Shadow and UW Card Style
In UW Theme 1.19.0, we added the ability to set a drop shadow and UW Card style for the Text Block and Featured Content Block page elements.
After the release, a couple of bugs were observed with the styling of these features.
This update fixes these bugs:
- Fixed margin issues above headings (removed unnecessary empty space)
- Fixed the float with the block/card to allow content to wrap around images
- Updated styles for drop shadow so that box appears white on grey backgrounds (and grey on white backgrounds)
Refactored Featured Content Block to Reduce Spacing Between Stacked Elements
A customer noted that there was extra padding around the Featured Content Block if no image is present. This update removes that unnecessary padding.
