Decommissioning of Enhanced Media Library Plugin

On Monday, Nov. 25, the WiscWeb service updated WordPress Core to version 5.3 and initially saw no significant issues. However, it was brought to our attention that an issue did arise with the ability to upload items to the Media Library while editing existing or new content (clicking the Add Media button on a page, post, etc.). This issue is related to the Enhanced Media Library Pro plugin that we use to assist with categorization of items within a site’s Media Library.

Media categories for the Media Library in the WordPress

After researching the issue, we have discovered that this plugin is no longer supported by the vendor and has not been updated for several WordPress Core versions. As such, it now violates our Terms of Service and Plugin Review Criteria. After discussion with the WiscWeb team and our leadership, we have determined that we will be decommissioning the Enhanced Media Library Pro plugin on Monday, Dec. 16.

While this will not affect any media that currently exists within your Media Library, you will no longer have the ability to categorize those items for ease of searching. We realize that this is potentially troublesome for those of you who have used categories within your Media Library and we do apologize for this inconvenience.

We welcome your feedback and input on this process, and encourage you to reach out to us at cms-support@doit.wisc.edu with your thoughts. We will also discuss this at our December Brown Bag (Thursday, Dec. 12).
